And no team closed the 2011 season on a more dismal note than the New York Jets. Disappointment was everywhere. Expectations were not met, by individuals or by the team. The players hated each other. Santonio Holmes was benched for being a negative influence.
With Wednesday's trade of Tim Tebow to the Jets, the sunshine meets the dark. Which will triumph is anybody's guess. Will Tebow lift the Jets up, and turn them into a factory of good feelings like he did with the Broncos last season? Or will the Jets drag Tebow down, and have him going on a Pacman Jones-like crime spree by the end of the season?

Truthfully, things aren't off to a great start. Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie is already popping off on Twitter about how the Jets don't need Tebow. Extend your welcoming arms of friendship, Cro.

Come on, Cro. Get on board with this. You and Tim Tebow have a lot in common. You're both New York Jets, and you both use the exact same amount of birth control.

It's such an odd fit. The Jets were so dysfunctional last season. How will Tim Tebow like playing in New York (he reportedly wanted to be back in Florida) under a media spotlight that's notoriously intense and negative, for a coach whose sexual deviancies are public knowledge, is perhaps the most braggadocios coach if NFL history and also happens to curse like he's Eric Cartman at the Gem Saloon?
The Jets have problems getting along to begin with. What happens when we throw Tebow into the mix, and there's now not only a natural quarterback controversy, but the magnifying glass on everyone else gets intensified?
And what does this do to Mark Sanchez? If Rex Ryan wants to bring in someone to push him to make Sanchez better, I get that, but is Tebow the right guy? As a pure passer and NFL quarterback, Tebow can't challenge Sanchez. Tebow isn't even that good at throwing the football. But that won't stop the fans from raining down boos and calling for Tebow at every Sanchez misstep. What's that do for Sanchez's confidence?
It's a bold and splashy move for the Jets. I wonder if there isn't a slight smell of desperation with it, too. They had trouble executing a basic offense last year, and now they want to add Tebow wrinkles? It seems like adding a problem on top of a lot of other problems.
However, I have doubted Tim Tebow before, and then been made to regret it. I don't understand how he accomplished any of the things he accomplished in Denver, and maybe he'll be a part of turning the Jets into a legit AFC contender, and I won't understand that, either.
But I guess if you're going to pin your desperate hopes to somebody, it might as well be a miracle worker.
