In today's edition of News You Probably Didn't Need Us to Tell You, it appears that Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt is still a bit of a blockhead. In late July, Britt's DUI arrest at Fort Campbell, Ky., made it an even eight incidents involving the police for the former first-round pick out of Rutgers since he came into the league before the 2009 season. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has been uncharacteristically patient with Britt, though he didn't have a choice with a few of Britt's transgressions, as they happened during the 2011 lockout.
However, after Incident No. 8, you knew that Britt was going to get the NFL treatment, and that happened on Monday, when he was summoned to the league's offices in New York to discuss the possible consequences of his actions.
"It was a personal meeting and I would rather just wait and see what happens," Britt told the Tennessean on Wednesday. "I am a man about what I did and I will take it on the chin on whatever [Commissioner Goodell] decides and move forward.
"What is my gut telling me? I really don't know. He didn't really give me any body language on what is going to happen. He just wasn't really pleased about seeing me in there. No person would like to see a player in their office twice in one year."
Britt first met with Goodell last August after the NFL's new collective bargaining agreement was ratified. At that time, he was told that any further incidents would see him on the wrong side of NFL justice. A brief recap of the other incidents:
In April of 2011, he was arrested in New Jersey after driving his car more than 20 mph over the speed limit in a 50 mph zone. He was charged with eluding an officer and hindering apprehension, and the charges were reduced to a misdemeanor and a fine. Just one day after the charges were reduced, Britt was spotted by two police officers at a car wash in Hoboken. The officers smelled marijuana and identified Britt as the source. He was handcuffed after police wrestled him to the ground, and it was believed that a friend of Britt's may have disposed of a suspicious cigar. The charges included resisting arrest. Before that, there were other incidents through his NFL career -- traffic warrants, driving without a license, failing to pay promised bail for a friend, and a bar fight in which eventually, no charges were brought against him.
So ... yeah. A multi-game suspension is almost certainly on the way for Britt, who may be the poster child for an offseason in which a disturbingly high number of NFL players got in trouble.
On his Instagram account, Britt posted a picture of a $9,915 fine on a piece of paper that says "2012 Tennessee Titans Fine Sheet." Under the photo, Britt wrote: "Yu gotta be (expletive) kidding me.. walk back to dis.. Don't dey know I have kids .. I'm tired of did (expletive)."
I'm sure the Titans have a number of expletives they'd like to throw at Kenny Britt, as well.
