Trent Richardson is merely ?ordinary,? according to Jim Brown

Thursday evening, some group of fans ? Browns, Buccaneers or Rams, most likely ? will believe they have a new superstar running back on their hands in Trent Richardson. The reality, according to Jim Brown, is that they'll instead just have some regular old running back.

Via Pro Football Talk, Brown talked about the possibility of his old team, the Cleveland Browns, drafting the Alabama product.

"I'm not overwhelmed with it," Brown said of the idea that the Browns could take Richardson. "The problem is that he's ordinary. I think he's ordinary."

Asked what about him is ordinary, Brown said, "the size, the speed, his moves."

This is not the commonly held opinion on Richardson. Our own Mike Tanier, detailing Richardson's abilities in The Shutdown 50, calls Richardson "a great player" and says he's "a cut above the typical running back." Bill Polian, former general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, says Richardson might be the best player in the draft. Greg Cosell has Richardson ranked as the best player in this draft class and the best running back to come into the league since Adrian Peterson in 2007.

If Richardson does end up in Cleveland, the first thing he's going to have to do is prove Jim Brown wrong. That's not always a tremendous ticket to popularity in the city of Cleveland, but in this case, I don't think they'll mind.
